Founding president of the
association Mawarid Environment and Energy
Mawarid association was founded in Marrakesh, Morocco in October 2009 by a team of young leaders dedicated to place environmental sustainability at the heart of public policy and debate. Environmental issues have now effectively become a local and national priority in many cities around the globe.
As a young association, Mawarid has been recognized as a prominent environmental actor by leading national, international institutions, and most importantly local citizens. As such, Mawarid was the only young association in Morocco’s environmental circles to be invited by the UNESCO to participate in the International Congress on Education for Sustainable Development, which was recently held in November 2014 in the city of Aichi-Nagoya, Japan .
Mawarid, whose objective and priority are centered on environmental education for sustainable development, launched the 5th edition of the ecological bike ride “A Day Without Cars".
This year to continue its awareness campaigns to eliminate carbon emission generated mostly by automobiles and lower the environmental impacts of congestion due to increased automobile traffic. This event intends to improve the quality of life for all citizens in the city Marrakeck.
"A Day Without Cars" was initiated in the city of Marrakesh in 2010. For the 2015 edition, we want to give it national and international visibility by bringing together various participants from Morocco and around the world. Moreover, Mawarid has invited local electives, policy makers, and various stakeholders in the City to attend the event
The value for ecological benefits is well demonstrable. I invite you to join us to become agents of change, however minimal it might be..
Thank you for your participation with us in promoting this event and for your contribution to a sustainable Morocco.
